Cultural Humility & Anti-Racism Training Workshops with Dr. Norris

In order to support the school in achieving its mission and goal of being an anti-racist and equitable learning environment, we are inviting Ruth Asawa SOTA parents and caregivers to participate in a five-session training to develop the capacity to pro-actively communicate with your children about racism in the current sociopolitical context.  This series of workshops is free & open to Ruth Asawa SOTA parents and caregivers, however registration is required.  Please click THIS LINK or the image above for more information and to register.


Cultural Humility & Anti-Racism Training Workshops with Dr. Norris

Participants are asked to commit to all five sessions. 
  • January 11 - Cultural Humility & Anti-Racism: Creating Spaces of Inclusion in Multicultural and Multiracial Contexts.
  • January 25 - Naming and Framing: Race and Racism in the current sociopolitical context of public schools and society.
  • February 1 - Upstanders, Bystanders, and Allies: What to do when we either witness or experience discrimination in everyday life.
  • February 8  - Colorblind Racism: How to make invisible forms of racism visible.
  • February 22 - Reflect, Act, and Transform: Three steps to supporting equity, justice, and proportionality in our school, community, and society
Facilitator Bio

Dr. Aaminah Norris is parent of alumna Tasneem Norris, 2017 graduate from the Musical Theater Department and Aasiya Norris, current junior in the Vocal Classical department. 


Dr. Norris is a critical multicultural educator whose overall focus is instituting educational practices, which affirm the instantiation of more positive identities for youth across the United States and internationally. Norris has more than 20 years of experience supporting schools and not for profit organizations in addressing issues of educational equity for low income students of color. Her background in education includes teaching, administration, and curriculum-development for thousands of students in grades K-16. She researches, teaches, and advocates use of digital and social media in formal and informal learning environments to address racial and gender inequities. 


Dr. Norris authored curricula for the films Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In. 


Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the Teaching Credentials Branch of the College of Education at Sacramento State University.
